RECONCILIATION

If you have experienced trauma you are a survivor. You may not like hearing it, but "the strongest steel comes from enduring the hottest flame". Coming out of trauma means everything around you is no longer the same because you have changed. Your emotional responses have changed. Some change is choice and some is due to actual physical reactions brought about by danger.

Being in danger produces an inundation by fear and fear creates a cascade of chemical and biological responses and they can cause seemingly overwhelming emotions. All of this is your mind and body's means of protecting you.

You are not ill. You are not crazy. You are reacting just as you should react according to the situation you found yourself in.

Thus, it is clear - being overwhelmed with an emotion is not a bad thing. It is natural and as with all natural things, your mind and body have ways of healing naturally. In and of itself, trauma and danger do not cause mental illness nor do the resulting strong emotions require medication.

You are not out of control when in deep emotion. In fact, most often this is when you think most clearly. Even in rage - the decisions are stark and sure.

Out of control emotions happen when you are confused. Seemingly crazy behavior happens when you are confused. Nothing is as uncomfortable and emotionally painful as being confused and unable to think clearly. You can be manipulated very easily by greedy unprincipled individuals when confused. Often you respond to confusion with anger, anger at yourself that disperses onto everyone and everything around you. This too can be manipulated by others. When anger comes out of confusion, hurtful decisions often result.

**Don't feel guilty or punish yourself for having strong emotions. Remember you cannot erase an emotion, you can only change it to the positive. Do your WREMS work until you go through a shift and the confusion is gone and the emotion is positive.

**Regardless of what you've been through, you are still responsible for how you feel and act. WREMS teaches you how to identify the emotion, to become master of your emotions and to reach calm.

**You want to own your emotions. Like owning a car, you're responsible for how you drive and for fixing your vehicle when it's acting up. When the car needs repairs you want assistance that doesn't make you feel that you, the owner, are sick and need to pay big sums for repairs.

**It is very important to develop clear communication with your subconscious mind and to be able to trust that communication. Learn more about using the COLOR CHARTS as you do your WREMS work.

THE RETURN by Mary Oliver

The deed took all my heart.
I did not think of you,
Not 'til the thing was done.
I put my sword away
And then no more the cold
And perfect fury ran
Along my narrow bones
And then no more the black
And dripping corridors
Hold anywhere the shape
That I had come to slay.
Then for the first time,
I saw in the cave's belly
The dark and clotted webs,
The green and sucking pools,
The rank and crumbling walls,
The maze of passages.

And I thought then
Of the far earth,
Of the spring sun
And the slow wind,
And a young girl,
And I looked then
At the white thread.

Hunting the minotaur
I was no common man
And had no need of love.
I trailed the shining thread
Behind me, for a vow,
And did not think of you.
It lay there, like a sign,
Coiled on the bull's great hoof.
And back into the world,
Half blind with weariness
I touched the thread and wept.
O, it was frail as air,
And I turned then
With the white spool

Through the cold rocks,
Through the black rocks.
Through the long webs,
And the mist fell,
And the webs clung.
And the rocks tumbled,
And the earth shook.

And the thread held.
